Hillwalking et cetera

Journeys in the hills and mountains

Time spent in different mountain regions, 2003-2011

I keep a logbook of where I go in the mountains. In this logbook, I keep a note of every day which I consider worthy of an entry – which is almost everything, though I tend not to count short and/or low level walks. Each walk is categorised by region, and the regions are as follows:

  • Lake District
  • Snowdonia
  • Northern Highlands (north of Great Glen but discounting Skye)
  • Southern Highlands (south of Great Glen but discounting Cairngorms)
  • Cairngorms (east of A9)
  • Isle of Skye
  • Peak District
  • Brecon Beacons
  • Dartmoor
  • Howgill Fells
  • Cheviots
  • Shropshire
  • Alps
  • Pyrenees
By counting how many days I have spent walking, climbing or mountaineering in each place, I was able to produce the following pie chart.
